Reg Mann, although born in Birmingham in 1898, was one of the most distinguished of modern Tyneside industrialists. In the inter-war years he was one of the founders of a small company engaged in the design and sale of mining equipment, an enterprise which later blossomed into much greater eminence as Victor Products Limited , a Wallsend based firm with an acknowledged international reputation in its chosen field of engineering.
In 1955 Victor Products became a public company and in 1957 Mr Mann and his wife Margery made a gift of shares to form the R.W.Mann Trust since when grants totalling over £2.5m.have been made in the North Tyneside and Newcastle area.
In 1958 Reg Mann was awarded the OBE for services to industry in the North East and in 1983 he was given an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Civil Law by Newcastle University.
